We try to grow as much as we can in the few months available on the high desert… that has some scorching days and cold nights. We get some irrigation water from mountain runoff but that’s not as plentiful as it once was so we also use well water and want to conserve it. We’ve installed drip lines to our fruit tress and berry shrubs and installed them both on the ground and overhead on all our gardens. With these emitters we can control pretty much whatever gets watered and can turn off items… like potatoes… when it’s time. There are a lot of parts you’ll need when first starting out but we bought in volume and it really paid off. We leave our lines out for the winter and all but a few connectors make it without issue. Over time, the caps on a few have faded and cracked so they needed to be replaced (entire emitter since caps alone are hard to find). We purchased the 1/2" delivery lines in 500-feet rolls and the 1/4” in 100-feet packs. The rest is pretty much in packs but shipping is high for the first but is very low for additional items so stocking up was the way to go. The irrigation water has sediment in it so sprayers tend to clog but you can pop off the top, clean it out with a piece of thin wire and snap it back on so you’re good to go but I stopped using the canal water because it’s a real pain to clean these out and the pump filter doesn’t get all the small debris. The half & quarter emitters rarely clog but the full circle ones have clogged often and I’m guessing there’s at least 100 in the 1-acre we water. I’m using the same review for all parts to the drip system and though there are other brands Orbit has worked great and the adjustable flow feature is very nice. Since these will only work on low pressure we also stocked up on the pressure reducers to zone our property to get a better spray pattern instead of adding too many to a line. We do use impact sprayers but they can beat the daylights out of some younger plants and these are very gentle. The drip emitters are also good to get water to the base of thirsty items like melons, tomatoes, sunflowers & squash while avoiding a lot of over-watering and evaporation. Adding some shade netting over the gardens has helped in retaining water and preventing stress to plants. Without using this method we’d be putting water on a lot of things that don’t need it and losing much to evaporation… plus it reduces strain on the well and at 450-feet deep I wouldn’t want to tax it too heavily. We also have a community well and it’s gravity fed so pressure is low and a drip line system is much more practical than any other type of watering device. Anyway, the parts are all rather cheap… but it adds up fast… but we’re still using pretty much everything we installed 8-years ago. The 1/2-inch parts are also just as good and they can be easily removed and reused when your watering requirements change. The only problems have been the couplings that are used to tap a 1/4" line into a 1/2" line because they do tend to get brittle, break off and the piece left in the line just travels to the end and come out when we drain the lines. The overhead system provides wide coverage and is like a gentle rain but the ground system is best for plants that don’t like their flowers getting wet. The whole drip line concept is a 5-star money saver and I use it whenever & wherever I can. I do use parts from RainBird, Orbit & DIG and all are pretty much interchangeable but orbit has been the best for emitters. Most of my emitters ended up on risers because the weeds choke them off quickly and even the flow control constant soakers by the bag from China have worked well for items like squash.Just what o neededThis item was exactly what I was looking for. I also purchased 1/2 and full pattern micro-sprayers at the same time. They connected and functioned as advertised and and as I expected. The units all came well packaged and on time.I recently installed a micro watering systems in 8 of our 12 gardens...I have no exact way to measure it but I am 100% sure that our watering usage has dropped like a rock over the same time last year.Keeping on hand as "adds/moves"changes" are requested by my wife. What's not to like? It is what it is and I like it for what it is.It is easy to adjust the spray also they fit nicely into the competition fabricated productsI've yet to find an adjustable sprayer they works really well. Either the spray is uneven or the adjust is either on or off. These work OK. Unfortunately 1 out of every 5 pack seems not to even work.easy to install
